EXPLORING STONE SETTING

Saturday 9 - 5pm, Sunday 9 – 5pm, with a 1 hour lunch break each day
Description: This intermediate class is designed to help students learn and go beyond the basics of stone setting. We will discuss and experiment with techniques to bezel set round, oval, square, and half round cabochons, then begin tube settings for faceted stones and prong settings for round and oval cabochons. Projects for the class will include a ring and a pendant so that students will have finished pieces.
Level: This is an intermediate class. You must have taken either Beginning Metal class or possess basic metal skills – sawing, filing, piercing and soldering.

Materials fee No fees, but you must bring your own tools as listed below. Please contact us IN ADVANCE if you are missing any of these tools and need to purchase them.

Jewelers saw frame
Saw blades (2/0 or 3/0 suggested)
Sharp nose tweezers
Cross lock tweezers
Jewelry pliers
Chasing or small pein hammer
Additional tools required:
Curved burnisher
Bezel rocker
Solder pick
Dividers
Ruler
Additional materials:
Fine silver bezel
26/28 ga silver strip
22 ga silver sheet
Hard/medium/ez solder
Stones to set – cabachons (round, oval, square, etc) as well as 3mm faceted stones if desired.
